Through drawing, painting, and site-specific installations, my recent work explores ordinary, yet overlooked spaces. I seek a zone between minimalism and realism, representation and abstraction that lifts the everyday out of its expected context. In one instance, the very ordinary subject matter of slept-in bedding is transformed into a large-scale panorama suggesting a vast topography or volumes of sailable water, and so conflating the known and the unknown. In the next instance, this same bedding is isolated in intimate studies referencing unique abstract sculptural forms. In all of my work, I seek to create an experience for the viewer that allows the known and familiar to be seen anew. |
